The Best Modern Quilt Books on Amazon

As a hub of amazing quilt products, Amazon also offers the best modern quilt books from your favorite designers. Also sometimes it gives you the opportunity to purchase the book directly from the designer. Amazon’s ability to direct traffic towards the designers while offering a wide selection of books, makes it my go-to source for quilting books.

Now….this is nothing against quilt shops, as a small online retailer of quilting products, it is nearly impossible to offer a wide selection of quilting books and also not get in too deep in overhead.

This is why I LOVE Amazon, because I can direct my readers to their reasonably priced books directly from the designer or publisher without having to stock an inventory of books.

Because books can be a little more on the pricey side, Amazon is often able to offer the most price competitive and comprehensive amount of books, partly due to the cost of the production of books and quantities. While I occasionally offer modern quilting books in my online shop I choose to offer a few that I use frequently but direct many to Amazon for other amazing books! With that being said I do earn a small commission on the books links below, however, I do LOVE all of these books!

I am telling you all this because I am excited to create this list of incredible modern quilting books.

Without further ado let’s get into the books!

The Modern Quilt Bible by Elizabeth Betts

This is an INCREDIBLE and comprehensive modern quilting book. One of my favorite parts of this book is the versatility and simplicity. The hallmark of this book is using clean lines, circles, and color to create modern quilts. It is crucial to highlight that this book can be a *tad* bit overwhelming because there are so many different pattern options. If you are anything like me you’d know that this can make it a bit difficult to choose between so many fun options. Regardless, this is a staple book for the modern quilter and an excellent choice to introduce into your quilting space.

Tula Pink’s City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks

There have been MANY quilt alongs featuring this book, and it is super fun! Although the blocks are small, they are versatile and easy to create. I made a small baby sized quilt from this book and loved the look of it! (Unironically I also used Tula Pink’s Free Spirit Fabric line for the blocks as well!) This is a great book for modern quilt block inspiration, along with a fun modern sampler quilt!

Patchwork City: 75 Innovative Blocks for the Modern Quilter By Elizabeth Hartman

This book, released in 2014, is an ode to the brilliant patterns of Elizabeth Hartman. I consider her a “darling” of the modern quilting community and personally one of my greatest influences. Her patterns are simple and chic and often connect to the natural world. I enjoy this book because it is closer to a cityscape or perhaps a little different take on her usual patterns. In this book there are 6 different sampler quilts offered and a ton of fun and inspirational quilt blocks.

Quilt with Tula and Angela: A Start-to-Finish Guide to Piecing and Quilting Using Color and Shape

This collab between Tula Pink and Angela Walters is one of my favorites of all time. Within this book is one of the “cutest” and most fun skull quilt patterns. It is both whimsical and offers smooth lines of symmetry. Be sure and give this book a whirl, I personally keep it on my coffee table/ottoman because I love thumbing through it!

Mini Wonderful Curves: 16 Seasonal Quilt Projects Using the QCR By Sew Kind of Wonderful

Last but not least is one of my all time favorite books. Mini Wonderful Curves is a NECESSARY companion to the Quick Curve Ruler – Mini which can be found in my shop here along with the book. I LOVE this book and how easy it makes curved piecing. I have had way too much fun with this book and I am currently planning my next project to come from this book! Wish me luck, and as always , I’ll keep you updated with the progress. If you’ve ever wanted to tackle curved piecing without all the difficulties, give this one a try!

Also the full sized Quick Curve Ruler can be found here!

I hope you find these books useful and enjoy them as much as I do! That’s all for today!
